Who we are
Missing Faces operates missingfaces.org to bring awareness to missing people in the United States. You can browse without creating an account. Contact us through the Contact page.
Information we collect
When you contact us, we collect your name, email address, optional phone number, message, and related form information. Case submissions may include private submitter contact details, your relationship to the Missing Person, case information, public social media links, and photographs. Please submit only information you are authorized to share and avoid unnecessary sensitive details.
Email subscriptions collect your email address, selected topics, frequency preference, consent, and subscription status. Browser notification subscriptions use a device or browser registration identifier and notification preferences. Hosting and security tools may record IP addresses, browser details, request times, and activity needed to operate and protect the site.
How we use information
We use this information to review submissions, communicate with submitters, answer questions, handle corrections and removal requests, publish approved awareness profiles, deliver requested updates, and maintain site security. Submitting a case does not automatically publish it.
Private details and public profiles
Submitter contact details and contact-form messages are not intended for public display. Approved profiles may show a Missing Person’s name, photographs, disappearance details, physical description, official reporting contacts, source links, approved updates, and authorized public social links. Official-source cases may be prepared from publicly available agency records. Public material can be copied or shared by others; we cannot control copies on other websites.
Service providers and sharing
Our hosting provider and website tools process information to run forms, store records, deliver email, prevent spam, and support notifications. Browser push uses Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and the relevant browser or device push service, which process registration identifiers and delivery information. See Firebase privacy information. Social-sharing tools and external links may contact third-party services governed by their own policies. We may also disclose information when legally required or when reasonably necessary to address fraud, abuse, or an immediate safety concern.
Cookies and browser storage
WordPress, forms, and notification features may use cookies or browser storage for security, preferences, and subscriptions. Administrative sign-in uses authentication cookies. You can clear or restrict browser storage, although some features may stop working. Following an external link or loading external content may let that provider receive your IP address and browser information.
Your choices
Email messages include unsubscribe and preference links. You can revoke push permission in browser or device settings. To request access, correction, removal, or deletion of information connected to you or an approved case, use the Contact page. Include the profile link and enough information to locate the record, without sending identity documents unless requested through an appropriate process. We may need to verify the request and may retain information required for legal, security, or recordkeeping reasons.
Retention and security
We retain information as needed to administer submissions, respond to requests, maintain case records and subscriptions, and meet legal or security needs. Retention can vary by record and service provider; deletion from active systems may not immediately remove backups. We use HTTPS and administrative access controls. No website, email system, or upload process can guarantee complete security.
Children
This is a general-audience awareness site. Contact forms, case submissions, and subscriptions are intended for adults. A child’s case may be submitted by an authorized adult or prepared from an official public record. If you believe a child directly provided personal information without appropriate permission, contact us so we can review and address it.
Policy changes
We may update this policy when our practices change. The date above identifies the current version. Contact us with privacy questions or concerns.
